Ewan Walton
Although not Devonian by birth, Ewan has lived in this part of the world since he was three. Whether living in Devon for more than twenty-five years makes him local or not is open to debate of course!
Apart from studying Art at GCSE and A level, Ewan has had no formal training in art, choosing instead to emerge from the University of St. Andrews with a degree in German. After a disastrous flirtation with the teaching profession he stumbled, through temping, into a ‘normal’ finance job in nearby Totnes, where he currently works full-time.
Bizarrely, it was Ewan’s membership of local running club Teignbridge Trotters that re-ignited his artistic spark, drawing enthusiasm and encouragement from the antics of fellow Trotter and celebrated local artist John Skinner. The Trotters have since staged an exhibition of work by John Skinner, Bryan Hayes, Sarah Frost, Anna Langler and Ewan.
Ewan started painting in oils in late 2005, but since then he has also successfully revived his childhood leaning towards drawing with pencil, with pleasing results. His preferred subject matter is local landscape, but he has also had the obligatory stab at a Venice scene and a couple of other odds and ends.
Failing that, he loves a long walk involving a country pub, preferably with his better half, Zilpah.
