Russell Gilder
Russell Gilder is a Devon-based, visual artist whose work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally. After graduating from the School of Fine Art in Birmingham in 1996, he moved to London where he has been represented by London Galleries and has acquired a growing client-base of private collectors. More recently, Russell’s work has been exhibited successfully in many of the top national visual art competitions, including the Hunting Prize and Discerning Eye Exhibition and Lynn Painter- Stainers Prize.
Working from the landscape of Mortimer forest in Shropshire for over 10 years, Russell explored, through a variety of media (including large-scale oil paintings, steel plate etchings and charcoal drawings), an intensely personal ideal of the landscape.
Since moving to Devon, Russell has started to develop new work, combining a continuing fascination with landscape painting, capturing, in particular, the evocative and ever-changing face of coastal South Devon, with a simultaneous move to more figurative work stimulated by the Devon background.
